The percentage of French households fitted with smoke detectors is today around 3%, while rates in England, Norway, Canada and the United States very between 90 and 98% !
The Morange and Meslot decree published in the Official Gazette on March 10, 2010 calls for the mandatory installation of smoke detectors (with EN 14604 certification) in all households by March 8,2015.
DETEX incorporates an EN 14604 compliant smoke detector that, thanks to its innovative built-in system, can save lives whereas a traditional smoke detector simply warns inhabitants if a fire breaks out.
The new legislation means an insurance company may lower an insurance premium if the policyholder has fitted a smoke detector. On the other hand, a €5,000 policy excess can be applied in the event of a fire in a household not fitted with a smoke detector or for which the installation has not been communicated to the insurance company.
